Beware - Scam / phishing!!
I recv'd two calls on my cell from this number, I answered the second time. A man with a heavy East Indian accent, amidst a lot of background noise, claimed to be calling me from Dell Computer technical support. We have a Dell desktop at home, so I listened further.
He said that they had detected a dangerous virus on our system, and that I needed to go to the computer right now and follow his instructions to eliminate the threat. Since we have anti-virus software running on our PC, I was suspicious of this claim - how would they be able to remotely detect an alleged virus on our PC?
I told him that I wasn't near the computer right now (even though I was) and that I would call back later. He insisted that he needed to call me instead, and asked when he could call back again. I said that I would call in myself when it was convenient and I hung up.
I immediately called Dell technical support at the number on their web site, which is different than the number that called me. The customer service agent confirmed that Dell never calls customers directly as I had been called.
Obviously it was some sort of scam / phishing call, don't listen to them. Beware!!
